Dimapur, June 22
The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD), a conglomeration of 19 Naga tribes based in Dimapur has appealed for peace and harmony between Southern Angamis and Mao tribe engaged in land dispute, and said all forms of conflict be resolved in true Naga spirit by exercising maximum tolerance and extending outmost forgiveness.
A statement issued by NCD president,T.Bangerloba and general secretary Joel Nillo Naga today informed that a general meeting of the councillors, including NWHD, Dimapur Urban Colony Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) and Dimapur GBs Union held on June 17, insisted that tribal conflict and misunderstandings, especially between Changs and Yimchunger and between Southern Angamis and Mao tribe be resolved amicably.
The meeting resolved that the spirit of goodwill and brotherhood should take precedence and at this juncture, all forms of misunderstanding in Naga family are detrimental to progress as a people.
Chakhesang org appeals
The Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) expressed utmost concern at the turn of events between Mao Council and Southern Angami Public Organisation due to land dispute.
While acknowledging the ‘genuine’ differences between the two, CPO observed that the conflict is causing serious setbacks on the traditional relationship which they enjoyed since time immemorial as neighbours and blood relatives.
Sensing the gravity of the situation and its possible implications on the unity of the Naga society, CPO noted that Naga Hoho, ENPO, NSF and several other organisations at different levels had come forward to express their deepest concerns. “Rightly, many have made their appeals to both the communities to settle the dispute amicably in the greater interest of the Naga people.”
In a statement, CPO said, “It is a fact of life that as neighbours in a society, individuals and communities are bound to encounter differences and problems. That is inevitable as humans. But as Nagas, despite our history of warfare, we possess rich traditional resources and means to deal with such adversities of life. That is why we could co-exist for so long without betraying one another to outside forces. Hence, for a conflict situation such as this, it is not only fitting but also right that we reason together and make all efforts to resolve the problem in a manner that is truly honourable, one that would uphold the dignity of each other. After all, we don’t have, in our today’s world, the liberty of changing our neighbours as we like and so the best solution is one which would promote peaceful co-existence and mutual respect. This is desirable for posterity as well.”
The CPO prayed for God’s wisdom, patience and courage upon the Mao Council and the SAPO so that the right steps be taken to bring timely reconciliation which in turn would restore the hope of living together in peaceful co-existence.
The organisation said, in resolving the conflict, the two parties would leave behind exemplary model of conflict resolution for other Nagas to inculcate and live by.
