DIMAPUR — Several organisations have expressed grief over the demise of Shikaho Zhimomi, president of Western Sümi Hoho (WSH), who passed away in New Delhi on December 16.
The Western Sümi Hoho (WSH) informed that the funeral service will be held on December 18 at 10 am at Kiyeto village. It has requested all organisations, institutions, and well-wishers to participate in paying their last respects.
Further, the WSH appealed to all business establishments within the Western Sümi jurisdiction, comprising the districts of Dimapur, Niuland, and Chümoukedima, to observe a voluntary half-day closure on December 18 as a mark of honour.
In a condolence message, the WSH stated, “His death is a devastating blow, an irreplaceable loss not only to the Sümi community but to the entire Naga people. With his departure, we have lost a towering statesman, a principled leader, and a devoted servant whose life was anchored in integrity, humility, and an unyielding commitment to the welfare of the people.”
Minister for the Public Works Department (Roads and Bridges), G Kaito Aye, expressed deep sadness over the passing of Zhimomi, terming it an irreparable loss for the Sumi community and the people of Nagaland. He described Zhimomi as a devoted and steadfast leader who dedicated his life to the welfare, unity, and collective interests of the people.

Advisor for Tribal Affairs and Elections, Tovihoto Ayemi, stated, “A life devoted to selfless service, his leadership and unwavering commitment to the Sumi community and the Naga people will be remembered with gratitude, respect, and reverence for generations to come.”
The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) described him as a dedicated leader of the Sumis who worked tirelessly for the upliftment of the public. The DCCI added that his endearing personality was instrumental in bridging many obstacles faced by the business community.
The Dimapur District Citizen's Forum (DDCF) expressed its deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the family members and loved ones. The forum prayed for God's grace to comfort the family with peace and strength during this time of sorrow.
The Dimapur Sumi Council (DSC) stated that his unwavering humility, compassion, and dedication to public service would be deeply missed. The council added that he made remarkable efforts to break barriers and foster peace and unity among the Naga tribes.
The Konyak Union in a message said that Zhimomi was a visionary leader who dedicated his life to the service of his people, upholding unity, peace, and the welfare of the Naga community, adding that his wisdom, humility, and unwavering commitment to social harmony will always be remembered and cherished.
The Western Chakhesang Hoho (WCH) said that Zhimomi was a tall leader of integrity, unwavering principles, and selfless dedication, earning the respect and trust of all. It noted that his leadership was marked by thoughtful vision, calm assurance, and a sincere commitment to the welfare of the people and the society at large.
It added that under his leadership, the WCH and WSH shared a relationship of deep cooperation and mutual respect.
The Nagaland Zeliang People Organisation (NZPO) stated that his demise was a huge loss for the community and the Nagas, adding that his devoted sacrifice for the integrity and welfare of society would always be cherished.
The Kachari Tribal Council Nagaland (KTCN) described him as a respected leader, a man of wisdom, and a committed social worker, while the Dimasa Naisho Hosom, Chümoukedima district, stated that it was a loss for the entire Naga community.
The Tangkhul Union Dimapur (TUD) stated that Zhimomi was known for tirelessly working for the welfare of the Sumi community and strengthening harmony within the larger Naga community. The union added that in his passing, the Sümis lost a towering figure whose void would be deeply felt.
The Nagaland Gorkha Association (NGA) stated that the Gorkha community has lost a dear friend and sympathiser who always treated them with love and care.
The Nagaland Gaonburas Federation (NGBF) described him as a soft-spoken leader with unwavering determination. It stated, “His leadership was marked by humility, wisdom, and commitment. His loss is deeply felt, and his legacy will continue to inspire many.”
The All Sümi Students' Union (SKK) stated that his death is an irreplaceable loss not only to the Sümi community but to the entire Naga. It stated in a message that as a leader, he has set an exemplary standard and an extraordinary benchmark, inspiring generations to come.
The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU), in a message, described him as a respected leader and a dedicated social worker who served the Sumi community with sincerity, wisdom, and unwavering commitment.
“His contributions in various capacities for the welfare and upliftment of society will always be remembered and cherished,” it read.
The GPRN/NSCN (U) stated that the passing of Zhimomi had filled the people of Nagaland with profound grief. The group noted that his unwavering commitment to the welfare of the Sumi community and his tireless efforts to foster unity had left an enduring legacy.
The Collective Leadership of GPRN/NSCN (U) added that his untimely departure created a void in the initiatives towards an amicable political solution. They recalled his interventions in resolving conflicts among neighbouring communities and acknowledged the concerns he consistently expressed regarding the inordinate delay in the political solution.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) Minority Department stated that he would be remembered for his dignity, wisdom, and contributions to society.
