Condolences pour in for late Kejong Chang

- DIMAPUR — Condolences have poured in following the demise of Kejong Chang, a former member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, who passed away on Thursday at Zion Hospital in Dimapur. He represented the Tuensang Sadar-II Assembly Constituency.
- Sharingain Longkumer: The Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Sharingain Longkumer, in a condolence note, stated that late Kejong was a visionary public leader. He was a recipient of four Governor's commendation certificates for his outstanding contribution to social services.
- “His lifelong dedication to the welfare of the people was evident in his many roles, from his early service as an interpreter under NEFA to his impactful tenure in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. His decades-long commitment to political and social service has left an indelible mark on our state,” said Longkumer, adding that in his death, the state has lost a veteran leader and the void created will be difficult to fill.
- The NLA Speaker, on his own behalf and on behalf of the members of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, extended condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that Almighty God grant them the strength to withstand the loss and that the departed soul rest in eternal peace.
- ENLU: The Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union (ENLU) mourned the demise of Kejong, stating that he was a seasoned politician, a statesman, and a man of integrity—compassionate and a committed leader who devoted his entire life to the welfare of the people.
- In a message from the union, signed by P Paiwang Konyak, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, it was stated that his involvement in various fields and the continued success of his political career were a testament to the immense trust and respect he earned from the people.
- “Late Kejong’s unwavering determination to the well-being of the state and particularly in the Eastern Region will always be remembered,” it read.
- In this moment of grief, the ENLU conveyed its deepest condolences, shared its thoughts and prayers with the bereaved family members and loved ones, and prayed that the departed soul rest in eternal peace and that his legacy continue to inspire generations to come.
- NDPP: The president of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), in a message, stated that throughout his illustrious career, both as a government servant and as a politician, Kejong was known for discharging his duties and responsibilities with dedication, loyalty, honesty, and humility.
- Stating that his association with the NDPP began in 2022, the president noted that, although he did not contest the general elections of 2023, he continued to serve the party with passion and dedication as the treasurer of the 54th Tuensang Sadar-II NDPP Assembly Constituency despite his advanced age.
- “In his passing, the NDPP has lost a father figure and a tall leader whose vast wisdom and experience will surely be missed,” the message read, adding condolences to Rev. Dr. Chingmak and the members of the bereaved family.
- NPF: The Naga People's Front (NPF), in a condolence message, stated that Kejong was a distinguished leader who dedicated his life to the service of the people of Nagaland, particularly the citizens of Tuensang district. Throughout his tenure as an MLA and minister, he worked tirelessly for the welfare and development of the state.
- “The Naga People’s Front (NPF) extends our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and well-wishers during this difficult time. We stand in solidarity with them, sharing in their grief and loss. May the Almighty grant them strength and solace,” it said, adding that they also pray that the departed soul rests in eternal peace.
- NPP Nagaland: The National People's Party (NPP), Nagaland, expressed sadness over the demise of Kejong Chang. The state president of NPP, A Nyamnyei Konyak, along with the state executive and rank-and-file members, extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members.
- “We pray that his soul rests in eternal peace. May the Almighty comfort and strengthen the family during this difficult time,” it read.
- NGBF: The Nagaland Gaonburas (Village Chiefs) Federation (NGBF) described Kejong Chang as a prominent figure in Nagaland politics and added that his leadership and commitment to the people of Tuensang Sadar-II have left a lasting impact.
- ‘In his demise we have lost a veteran and fatherly figure leader whose absence shall be felt by all of us. We convey our heartfelt thoughts, prayers and condolences to the bereaved family and may his soul rest in peace,’ it said.
- Ex-PAN: The Ex-Parliamentarians Association of Nagaland (Ex-PAN), mourning the demise of Kejong Chang, stated that he had been a member of the association since 2018. Though not physically active due to age, he continued to be an inspiration and a mentor to Ex-PAN members, and his passing is a great loss to the Ex-PAN family.
- Stating that Kejong was known for discharging his responsibilities with grace and humility, always prioritising the welfare of the people and the state, the association said that his passing is not just a loss for the people of Tuensang district and the Chang tribe but for the entire state, which has lost one of its tallest leaders.
- “The Ex-PAN conveys our heartfelt condolences to Rev. Dr. Chingmak and the members of the bereaved family. May God give them comfort and strength as they mourn the loss of a dearly loved one,” the message read.
