I vehemently condemn the gruesome incident that took place at Mukhami village under V.K. area of Zunheboto district, in the evening of 30th Sept. 2016 wherein a group of people from Mukhami village armed with sharp weapons attempted on the life of one Vitokhu Awomi who also hails from the same village.
The armed group went to the house of the victim at about 7:30 p.m. and attacked him with machete. However, the victim miraculously escaped death but not before being seriously injured with one of his hands completely severed. To my utter surprise, the armed group who apparently intended to kill Vitokhu pursued the victim to another house in the neighbourhood, where the victim ran into to hide from the attackers.
I am not aware of what led to occurrence of this incident and therefore I am not taking sides of anyone whosoever but as a concerned citizen I feel that any misunderstanding that may have existed between the two parties of the village could have been amicably settled within the village itself and not resort to such act of violence, which will destroy the fabric of the society.
Nagas are living in a civilised society and such acts have on place in Naga society. Every right thinking citizens to denounce such barbaric act.
I appeal to both the parties not to escalate the situation further and let law take its own course of action. Whatever action taken by the law
enforcing agency should be made known to the public.
