
Resource persons and others during the conclave on climate
change and its impact on human health in Imphal, on Saturday.
- IMPHAL — One of
the first conclaves on climate change and its impact on human health was held
under the banner AHPICON NE II 2025, a major event by Association of Healthcare
Providers India (AHPI), Manipur chapter, on Saturday in Imphal.
- The conclave highlighted Northeast India's particular
vulnerability to climate-driven health threats.
- AHPI Manipur chapter’s conclave, focused on the alarming
effects of climate change on human health in Northeast India, was held with the
primary objective to enlighten the health impacts due to climate change in the
region.
- Healthcare professionals and experts in diverse fields from Manipur
and other states, shared insights and experiences on issues relating to climate
change impact on human health.
- The formal inauguration function of the conclave was
observed in between the scientific sessions and panel discussions in presence
of former Vice chancellor of Manipur University and former director of the
Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr. N Bijoy Singh.
- Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), Dr. Kh Palin of Shija
Hospitals; Director Dr. T Brajakumar, founder and patron Dr. Alexander Thomas
of AHPI; CMD Dr. Kh Ratankumar Singh of Mother’s Care Children Hospital and
Research Centre; Director Prof. G Sunil of Regional Institute of Medical
Sciences, Imphal; and CMD Dr. James Elangbam of Acme Fertility and Healthcare
Centre, Imphal, were present during the inaugural function.
- Dr. Palin, who is the president of AHPI's Manipur Chapter,
said that "It is high time to explore climate-related health risks such as
air and waterborne diseases, heat-related illnesses, vector-borne diseases, and
mental health issues so we organise this conclave as an initial step."
- The recommendations of the conclave, which will be submitted
to the government, were also minutely discussed.
