DIMAPUR — As fake
universities and colleges continue to pose a serious threat to students with
many falling victims to such fraudulent institutions every year, the University
Grants Commission (UGC) periodically releases list of such varsities operating
in India, in an attempt to protect young minds from fraudsters.
The
UGC recently issued a public notice, warning students and parents about fake institutions
operating in contravention of the law while advising applicants to verify the
authenticity of universities before seeking admission.
In
its latest update, the regulatory body has listed 21 fake universities along
with details including location. Such unauthorised institutions that usually
operate by claiming affiliation with established institutions offer unrecognised
degrees and other certifications that hold no validity for higher education or
employment, thus wasting time and resources of students. For
authentication of universities, students can check the official website of UGC.
