Dimapur, Sep. 30 (EMN): As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2018, and in response to the call given by the chief minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio, to the citizens clean their localities from September 29 to October 2 in Nagaland, cleanliness drive was carried out in several parts of the state.
Joining the state-wide mass social work under ‘Swachh Bharat Mission,’ (SBM) the citizens of Mangkolemba town in Mokokchung district conducted a cleanliness campaign in and around the town with advisor for Law & Justice Dr. Logrineken Ao taking part in it too.
Starting the mass social work’ on Sep. 30 from the Zero Point, Mangkolemba Town, more than 900 people including students, youth, GBs, Colony Chairmen from the nine wards under Mangkolemba Town Council and also officials from all the departments under ADC, Mangkolemba participated in the cleanliness drive.
During the drive, local contractors provided their JCB and others with their vehicles throughout the mass social work.
During the ‘Mass Social Work,’ the people also cleaned chocked culverts and drains and also filled potholes in and around the Mongkolemba areas.
Dr. Longrineken Ao expressed his happiness because of the huge turnout for the mass social work. He further encouraged the people to maintain the culture of keeping the town, colonies and their wards need and clean not only in the present day but also in the future.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Mangkolemba, Razouvolie Dozo thanked the citizens of Mongkolemba and also all the staffs under Mangkolemba ADC for taking part in the mass social work. He also lauded the Advisor for joining the drive.
Elsewhere in Dimapur, the Vivekananda Welfare Foundation in collaboration with the Dimapur Municipal Council on Sunday carried out a cleanliness drive ‘Swachhta Hi Seva Campaign’ with the slogan ‘sanitation is everyone’s business, let’s make Swachh Bharat Mission a reality’.
The drive started at 6 am and continued till 9 am. About 50 members from VWF took part in it and cleaned the stretch of road from TK Angami Complex to Suburban Police Station, Signal Bosti.

Speaking about the drive, Niranjan Saha, President, VWF on the occasion said that it was not only a cleanliness drive but also an awareness program as it could ignite importance in many passersby about cleanliness and during the drive there were non-members of VWF and members of United Youths Association who also joined voluntarily the members of VWF and carried out the cleaning of the stretch of the road.
He said that the prime minister’s initiative is slowly becoming a success story as more people are getting concerned about cleanliness and though it won’t happen overnight, but eventually clean India would be a reality.
Liaison officer of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) Ganesh Sharma who was also overlooking the activities said that DMC had provided a JCB, laborers and trucks for the drive.
VWF is also looking to adopt the stretch of road near Dimapur Railway High School for a year and look after its cleanliness during the period. An official announcement about it from DMC is awaited.
In Kohima, students of Kohima Science College organised “Drainage Cleaning Campaign” on September 29 in Kohima.
According to a press release, students collected wastes and garbage along the roadside, and in the culverts and drainage starting from Minister’s Hill Higher Secondary School to their College premises.
The updates stated that the objective was to make the public aware about the deleterious effects caused to environment by inappropriate dumping of wastes and garbage.
In Khezhakeno village, villagers, along with the department of PHED, Phek division and WSSO, Kohima, carried out cleanliness drive in the village.
A press release stated that a short programme was conducted in collaboration with the Chüketshe Society, Khezhakeno at lower guest house in Khezhakeno before the mass cleanliness began.
The updates mentioned that during the programme, the sub-divisional officer of PHED, Pfütsero, Neilhoukholie Chielie, spoke about the importance of cleanliness and asserted that ‘cleanliness should be considered as a religion.’ Chielie also sought to reform the sanitation sectors with primary focus on behavioural changes of the people for proper implementation of the scheme provided by the government in making the village clean.
The updates added that the programme was followed by a mass cleanliness drive around the village.
The Nagaland Bhojpuri Samaj led by its project chairman, Harender Gupta conducted a cleanliness drive from Deluxe Point (Bata Charali Junction) to Durga Mandir junction in Dimapur.
According to a press note, the team also clean the entire stretch of MP Road, during which, businessmen living in the area joined them in cleaning the garbage. The updates mentioned that the NBS agreed to undertake other projects in their effort to make Dimapur, a clean city.
Further, the NSS of St. Joseph University organized a cleanliness drive, plantation and awareness campaign on the occasion of the Swachta Hi Sewa movement at Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR), 4th mile Dimapur on September 29.
40 NSS volunteers of the university under the guidance of the NSS coordinators Prof.Daniel M. Khan and Prof.Limongi participated in the campaign.
