Dimapur, September 10
The ACAUT Nagaland has said the concept about ‘Common Platform’ programme has been misconstrued and clarified that it is not a consultative meeting in any sense of the term.
Stating that at this stage the platform cannot go beyond discussion and sharing of ideas vis-à-vis the Naga issue, the ACAUT said, the apprehensions of various organizations were misplaced.
“The needless exercise of raising of hands by the participating public to endorse resolutions does not arise. It is purely an open discussion platform where noted personalities and church leaders will voice their opinions on the theme “Nagas’ Opinion on Peaceful Settlement” and the citizens invited to listen and participate in the discussion,” a statement issued by ACAUT said. The ACAUT appealed to all to participate in the upcoming “Common Platform program,” to be held on September 12 at 3 p.m. DDSC, Dimapur.
The ACAUT requested all apex tribal HOHO’s of the districts, the ACAUT units in the other districts, all mass-based organizations, Women Organizations, student organizations, youth organizations, GBs and DBs unions at all levels, colleges and educational institutions, churches of all denominations, business organizations in all the districts, etc., to attend the discourse on peaceful settlement of Naga political issue. The ACAUT also appealed to all the chairmen and general public under DUCCF, leaders and citizens of all the villages under Dimapur district, principals and faculty members of all the colleges, theological seminaries, intellectuals, concerned citizens, and the social media community to attend the programme.
GBs’ body too will not participate
The Nagaland GB Federation has joined the bandwagon of Naga organizations deciding to turn their back on the public discourse called by ACAUT under the name of “Common Platform” on September 12 next at the Dimapur District Sports Council Stadium.
“We learn that the ACAUT is initiating a ‘Common Platform’ to garner opinions of all Naga intellectuals and stakeholders in view of the Peace Accord between the GoI and the NSCN which will decide the future of the Nagas. “However, the federation feels that it would not be appropriate for the GBs who are representing various sections of the people to take part in the platform. It is the opinion of the Federation, at this crucial juncture all the frontals organization and stakeholders should be taken on board for a peaceful and permanent settlement,” a press statement from the GB federation stated.
It however stated that the Nagaland GB Federation appreciates the dynamic movement initiated by ACAUT Nagaland in eradicating corruptions and illegal taxations that are ailing the system and the society in Nagaland.
