Common Facility Centre for banana fibre extraction inaugurated at Kukidolong

  • DIMAPUR — The Common Facility Centre (CFC) for banana fibre extraction at Kukidolong, supported by the North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR), with the Entrepreneurs Associates (tEA) as the implementing agency, was inaugurated on June 11.

  • According to an update, it was inaugurated in the presence of the chief guest, Chanchal Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), and guest of honour, Dr. M Chuba Ao, Chairman, MARCOFED, Government of Nagaland. Officials from NECTAR, led by Dr. Arun Kumar Sarma, Director General, were part of the inauguration ceremony.

  • Speaking at the event, Chanchal said that under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East (PM DevINE), many initiatives for the development of the region are being launched. He stated that for India to develop, the north-east region must develop.

  • Dr. Ao expressed his happiness over the establishment of the unit, hoping it would bring change to the region.

  • Dr. Sarma highlighted the plans that the Government of India, under the Ministry of DoNER, envisions for farmers in the region. With the core goal of turning ‘waste into wealth,’ the CFC will offer livelihood solutions through banana waste to numerous farmers and rural communities near the plant and across the state.

  • Neichute Doulo, CEO of tEA, thanked the NECTAR team for proactively setting up the CFC within a very short period. The CEO also mentioned that NECTAR, under the leadership of Dr. Sarma, has been undertaking pathbreaking initiatives in the region.

  • Doulo also thanked Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio for his grand vision of NagaKi City, a new planned city for Nagaland. He added that the planned NagaKi City needs industries and businesses, and the CFC of NECTAR, implemented by tEA, is the first factory established within the vision framework of Rio and the Government of Nagaland.

  • Dignitaries who also spoke at the meeting included Dr. Akali Sema, professor at Nagaland University, and Doshehe Y Sema, former minister. The team from NECTAR also included Simon Phukan, senior administrative officer, and several other officials.

  • During the programme, NECTAR provided farmers with training materials and Vasundhara Soil Organic Testing Kits. Around 200 farmers from across the state attended the event.
