Committee to check Dhansiri exploitation formed

The committee will now take charge of assuming tasks to address the issue of random excavation of sand, gravel and boulders from Dhansiri River and its tributaries by all and sundry.Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome, formed the enforcement committee during a joint meeting on March 17. The meeting had officials from the Dimapur Municipal Council, administrative officials, representatives from the I&FC department, representatives from the department Geology & Mining, officials from the Divisional Forest Officer’s establishment of Dimapur district, Land Records and Survey Officer, leaders of the Naga Council of Dimapur, chairmen and head gaon bura, and The Dhansiri River Flood Control Board and representatives from the sand, gravel, and boulders dealers. Led by the deputy commissioner, the committee went to some important locations along the 4th mile bridge, near Referral Hospital, and behind Global Open University and behind the Airport on April 8 and on the 17 too. The Dhansiri River Flood Control Board (DRFCB) issued a press release on Monday welcoming the move of the administration to check the rampant exploitation of the river. “The DRFCB would also like to express our gratitude to the enforcement committee members for their initiative and physical presents on spot verification conducted at Dhansiri river tributaries. Hence, it is more likely to be expecting to come out with some proper resolution on 23rd April 2015 meeting for the protection of government developments and the public properties in our city,” the board stated. “The river is also a lifeline for human beings and it has to maintain free flow of water without any damage/obstacle on the river bed…’ the note from the board stated.
