Dimapur, March 8 (EMN): The Joint Committee on Prevention of Illegal Immigrants (JCPI) has stated its demand for setting the cut-off year for the proposed register of indigenous inhabitants of Nagaland (Riin).
Likewise, the committee has asked the state government authorities to set up foreigners’ tribunals in accordance with the Foreigners’ Act of 1946.
The JCPI’s media cell issued a clarification in regard to the reported Inner Line Permit (ILP) drive conducted by the Dimapur district administration on February 27 2020.
“The 9th December 2019 notification had given 90 days to obtain ILP for people requiring it, until then imposing fines on the pretext of one or the other reason and also that during the pendency of JCPI's ultimatum is untimely,” the note stated.
During a joint meeting that was conducted on March 3 2020, the clarification stated, the JCPI lauded the deputy commissioner of Dimapur ‘for the efforts taken to effectively implement ILP and agreed to have better and mutual coordination.’
“In the meeting with the chief secretary, government of Nagaland on the same day JCPI reiterated the 15th March, 2020 as the deadline for having 1st December 1963 as cut off year for RIIN and implement ILP on the basis of RIIN cut-off year.”
The JCPI also asked the chief secretary to set up the foreigners’ tribunals as per the Foreigners Act of 1946 and to “physically implement ILP with necessary infrastructures, modalities and standard operating procedures as per the new guidelines,” the note added.
