Dimapur, May 9 (EMN): A total of 150 Ex-servicemen (ESM), Veer Naris, widows and veterans have availed legal services provided by the Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) during the combined ESM rally organised by the Indian armed forces and Assam Rifles in Kohima on May 9.
Kohima district legal authority stated that a total of 154 persons have availed legal services from its stalls, which were set up during the rally. It stated that panel lawyers from Kohima district rendered services to more than 150 beneficiaries by way of drafting affidavits, free legal advices and counselling.
The district authority also distributed free legal literacy booklets pamphlets to the beneficiaries. It also educated the participants and their dependents regarding various benefits and schemes.
A total of 650 persons comprising defence forces and Assam Rifles attended the combined ESM rally programme, which was organised for the first in Nagaland.
Various stalls were set-up manned by representative of pension authorities, pay and accounts offices, recruiting office, Assam Rifles Ex-servicemen Association (ARESA), Rajya and Zila Sainik Boards, State Bank of India, and HDFC Bank.
The veterans visited various stalls put-up in collaboration with state government departments such as skill development, horticulture, agriculture, and fisheries. The stalls not only redressed their complaints but also provided information about finance and investment scheme and employment opportunities for themselves and their dependents.
Participants also availed health services including ENT, eye, orthopaedic and dental provided by the specialists during the rally.
The chief guest of the rally, Maj. Gen. PC Nair, Inspector General Assam Rifles (North), addressed the veterans and felicitated 37 disabled soldiers with wheel chairs, hearing aids, walking sticks and stitching machines.
All the participants were gifted with blankets, shawls, caps, veteran badges and information pamphlets. Five World War II Naga veterans were also honoured during the programme.
