Dimapur, Oct. 3: All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has sought the intervention of Minister for Higher and Technical Education in connection with mismanagement of scholarship that was revealed in the report of Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India.
The students’ union said in a statement that it had written a letter to the Director Technical Education demanding a detail report on mismanagement of scholarship by Directorate of Technical Education as per the report of CAG but the response was unsatisfactory. It said that the department has claimed to have “recovered the misused scholarship amount” but didn’t reveal the “officials who were involved in misappropriation of scholarship fund.”
“It is observed that the director is covering the identity of those erring officials i.e unknown and such hypocrite attitude is a denial to the ANCSU demands for justice and stern action should be initiated against the director if found guilty of misusing/abusing his authority and office to restore the integrity of the department,” said the statement from the union, adding that “recovering the misused amount is not the only answer.”
Stating that “unspent balance of scholarship amount is not expected to be misused by any official of the department” under any circumstances, the ANCSU appealed Minister for Higher and Technical Education to “immediately intervene and recommend the State Vigilance Commission (SVC) for proper investigation and those officials involved must be terminated as per SVC report as they are observed to be a threat to the students’ community and its funds meant only for scholarship.”
