Dimapur, March 23 (EMN): A college in Dimapur has instated chair in honour of a former educationist. C-Edge College “observed installation” of the ‘Kiremwati Chair’ on March 21, in honour of Kiremwati Ao, former chairman of Nagaland Education Commission.
A press release from the college on Wednesday stated that president of the college, Moa Aier, spoke about “chair being installed in various universities and educational institute across the globe that the concept of installation of chair dates way back to 176 AD.”
Key ‘features’ of the chair, which consists of “retaining / attracting quality faculty within the college”, to encourage research programme and to conduct lectures, seminars and workshops, were highlighted, it was informed.
The press release also informed that former Secretary to the Government of Nagaland R Ezung, guest speaker of the event, “recalled being taught by the man about half a century ago and testified how Mr. Kiremwati imbibed the fear of God in his life and works.”
Ezung called Kiremwati one of the “greatest achievers in Nagaland,” the press release asserted. “He was a man who practiced what he taught and set himself as an exemplary model for his students and colleagues. Many students of Mr. Kiremwati has gone to become IAS and IPS officers, directors, addl. chief engineer, doctors etc.,” the press release stated.
In his speech, Kiremwati “attributed glory to God and how the unseen hand of God has led his humble life as a teacher.” He served as director of Higher and Technical Education in 1983; pro vice chancellor of the North East Hill University in 1986.
“He continued contributing to education in various capacities even after many years of formal retirement. Served as the chairman of Nagaland Education Commission in 1999 and later resigned as the Education Consultant in 2005,” the press release stated.
