DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 11 : Four villages in the areas of Coco under Atoizu range are reported to in ‘complete darkness’ due to disruption of electricity supply since June 13.
The Coco Area Joint Council and the Coco Area Student’s Union issued a note on Saturday stating that the transformer for the area was replaced twice but was ‘damaged without lasting even for two hours, because the transformer was installed by lineman and helper who do not have proper technical knowledge.’
No ‘technical officer’ was present during the installation, they alleged.
The organizations said that the disruption of electricity supply has hampered students' studies and ‘affecting economy since prices of candle and kerosene have shot up and all villagers are not able to afford such skyrocketing prices.’
The note also explained that the area has been undergoing ‘four months of complete darkness and villagers are undergoing untold miseries.’ It was informed that a section of students in the area would be writing for their selection examinations soon, the schedule for which was stated to be ‘coming up.’
The two organizations have appealed to the authorities in concern address the matter at the earliest ‘lest public patience runs out.’
