Mokokchung, September 27: One-day Cocoon mela-cum- grading awareness programme was held at Youth Hall, Imkongmeren Sports Complex by district sericulutre department where Additional Deputy Commissioner, Bendanglila, NCS inaugurated the mela as chief guest.
In her short speech, Bendanglila lauded the District Sericulutre Department and said that the sizeable turnout of eri farmers with their produce at the mela showed the positive efforts put up by the department to uplift the farmers.
She also encouraged the gathered eri farmers to work hard and keep the farming as their primary occupation as Nagas had the tendency to try every business avenues that comes their way and hence become unsuccessful in all aspects of their trades in the long run.
A short speech was also delivered by Mhathung Kikon, Deputy Director, Directorate of Sericulture. Keynote address was delivered by Alemkumzuk, DSO, Mokokchung.
More than 30 eri farmers and SHGs from all over the district attended the mela where different eri products were displayed and cocoons graded.
