Dimapur, Dec. 29 (EMN):The Coco Area Students’ Union (CASU) from Atoizu sub-division in Zunheboto district has begun celebrating its golden jubilee, from December 27. The programme will culminate on December 29 in Akuhaito town, the CASU stated in a press release that was issued on Saturday.
On the morning of December 28, local representative in the legislative assembly, Picto Shohe, unveiled the jubilee’s commemorative monolith before addressing the gathering.
Shohe is said to be a former president of the organisation. He recalled a speaker during a silver jubilee programme in 1978 who had said, “Remember the past and grab the future,” the updates stated.
Shohe spoke about the motto of the CASU i.e., ‘bridge the gap.’ He said that the members of the community should help one another in
‘bridging the gap in the area and how we should live up to the jubilee’s theme i.e., resolute persistence, in the future.’
Further, the legislator urged the students to help people: ‘If we help individuals, we are helping the society.’ He urged the students to lead a good life both in their individual life and social life, the press release stated. ‘Nothing comes easy but out of struggle we will achieve what we want,’ he said as he encouraged the students to be rooted in God ‘as nothing can be achieved without His blessings.’
The legislator was also said to have expressed appreciation for the Philimi Council and Philimi Youth Front for declaring and implementing the tobacco-free village programme. He encouraged the villages in the Coco area to follow suit.
Later in the evening programme, secretary for Land Resources Y Kikheto Sema spoke based on the theme of the jubilee. He said that jubilees are the time to cherish the past and claim the future.
Referring to 1 Corinthians 3:6, Sema urged the students to acknowledge people (like the Biblical Paul had done) who established the CASU and the leaders who nurtured and uplifted the union. “He also said that jubilee is the time to forgive and quoted Winston Churchill - ‘If we open quarrel between the past and present, we shall find that we have lost the future,’” the updates stated. The officer also urged the students not to judge one another but “rather self introspect.”
“As we mature and celebrate golden Jubilee we must mature in our thinking and attitude,” Sema said.
