Dimapur, May 3 (EMN): Coal and mining unions of Mongkolemba, Tzurangkong, and Changki in Mokokchung met with the minister for Geology and Mining V Kashiho Sangtam on May 2 at Longtho compound in Kiphire. Updates on Thursday informed about the interaction.
During the interaction, the leaders of the unions are said to have urged Sangtam to establish a regional office at Mongkolemba town. The union added that there was no proper office for Geology and Mining in the area for which miners face difficulties.
In response Sangtam is said to have assured them that he would look into the matter. He discussed with them matters about the expansion of coal mining activities. Speaking about the importance of coal mining he said that ‘coal mining is important in striking a balance of the fragile environment,’ according to the updates.
Further, V Kashiho Sangtam urged the unions to devise innovative suggestions and ideas in the interest of the department.
The minister asserted that coal mining not only helps provide energy, but also creates long-term jobs that can give benefits to the local economy and communities, the updates added.
