DIMAPUR, AUGUST 20
THE Central Nagaland Tribal Council (CNTC) paid a visit to affected Ralan area on August 19 to assess the volatile situation there. During their visit, the CNTC members held a meeting with Ralan Area Lotha Hoho (RALH), the civil society, police and administration officials.
The CNTC, in a release issued by its vice president Khondao Ngully and general secretary Imtinochet today, appreciated the administration and police personnel for maintaining round-the-clock vigil in the affected areas. It, however, observed that there is shortage of police personnel in the area. Therefore, the Council urged the State government to establish a permanent police post in the whole sensitive stretches where frequent skirmishes with the Assamese settlers of Naga areas occur every now and then.
The CNTC has also condemned the connivance act of the Assam government and the Advasi Maoists (ALNA) for creating the ongoing tense situation and in the process trying to illegally grab the land of the Nagas which have been owned, cultivated and developed by the Nagas since time immemorial.
The council further condemned the Assam media house for reporting distorted news and thereby creating unwarranted situations in the area.
Stating that the Naga villages surrounding Ralan area had to vacate their houses for fear of their lives and are still taking shelters at the nearby villages, the Council urged the State government to provide immediate relief to displaced Naga villagers.
