Dimapur, Dec. 13: Taking note of Chief Minister TR Zeliang’s statement in Kohima on Monday, the Naga Hoho has sought to clarify its position, saying it is not a partner to any political parties, be it in Nagaland, Manipur, Assam, Arunachal or Myanmar.
“Unlike the political parties, the principle and ideals of the Naga Hoho stands crystal clear for One Naga people, which is the actual locus standi,” Chitho Nyusou, secretary, administration, Naga Hoho, said in a release on Tuesday.
The Naga Hoho also termed the statement of Zeliang “Naga Hoho of Nagaland” as “very much uncalled for”. Clarifying that there is ‘No Naga Hoho of Nagaland’ or ‘Naga Hoho of Manipur’, it said tribe units of both Nagaland and Manipur are mature enough in distinguishing the state of affairs or issues that take place in Manipur or in Nagaland and ‘exactly’ do not indulge unnecessarily.
“We rather extend solidarity and support one another on various issues that affect or when one’s right is being snatched by the government. The Naga Hoho looks upto our leaders to promote the unity amongst the Naga family and not further divide our Naga family by labelling Naga Hoho of any state,” the release stated.
It also pointed out that the Naga Hoho tribe units from Nagaland were never invited by the Government of Manipur for consultation on any subject(s). However, if the Chief Minister of Nagaland wishes to do so on various state of affairs with tribe hoho units from Manipur, there is no provision with the Naga Hoho to protest or term it as illegal, the release said.
Clarifying its stand in relation to the ultimatum served to the Government of Nagaland on December 10, the Naga Hoho sought to once again reiterate its stand with the joint representation served to the Government of Nagaland, dated 16th March 2012 by it and the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization.
Referring to the submission of the joint representation served to the Government of Nagaland on the 12th of March, 2012 by it and the ENPO, the Naga Hoho has put forward its survey report on the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2001 vis-a-vis 33% women reservation.
It informed that the Goodwill visit to all the district headquarters by the Executive Council of the Naga Hoho began from June 19, 2011. “Interaction with the Rengma Hoho took place at Tsemenyu on the 10/06/2011 and on the same day interaction with Ao Senden.
On the 11/06/2011 interaction took place at Wokha with the Kyong Hoho. On the 16/06/2011 interaction took place with the Pochury Public Forum (now Pochury Hoho) at Meluri. With the Chakhesang Public Organization on the 17/06/2011 at Phek. On the 30/06/2011 with Zeliangrong Baudi. On 09/08/2011 with the Sumi Hoho. With Naga Council Dimapur on the 16/08/2011. And finally with the Angami Public Organization on the 18/08/2011,” the release said.
After wide consultation and interaction with all its tribe hohos, the release said, the Naga Hoho in its 4th Federal Assembly held at Hotel Millennium, Kohima on August 24, 2011 unanimously passed its Resolution No. 4, wherein “it has been observed that it is still premature to introduce 33% women reservation in the Naga society and therefore the house resolved to advocate towards women empowerment by creating various opportunity.”
While acknowledging the divided house of its present office, the Naga Hoho said it still aspires for a ‘One Naga united house’ towards which its members are making sincere efforts. “The above mentioned dates are the testimony of the tribe hohos which culminated in passing a unanimous decision with Resolution No. 4,” the Naga Hoho added.
