DIMAPUR — The
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in Kohima has directed Food Business Operators
(FBO) to stop the distribution of Myanmar food products in the district.
In an order, the CMO pointed out that the Food Safety and
Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020, require packaged food
imported into the country to display the name and complete address of the
importer in India.
“However, the food products of Myanmar do not adhere to the
stated regulation and is a violation. Therefore, the Food Business Operators
distributing the sale of Myanmar food products in Kohima are hereby informed to
be aware and stop the distribution for sale.
“Failure to comply with will invite legal prosecution under
Section 58 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006,” the order stated.
