DIMAPUR — Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Speaker, Sharingain Longkumer, and others have condoled the death of Mongchua Khiamniungan, former MLA from 57-Thonoknyu AC.
In a condolence message, the Meghalaya CM, on behalf of the National People's Party (NPP), stated that Mongchua was a tall leader whose legacy in Nagaland's political history remains significant.
Sangma stated that Mongchua’s election to the NLA marked “a life dedicated to the service of his people and the development of the region. His contributions as a veteran leader have left an indelible mark on the state's democratic journey.”
In a separate message, the NLA speaker stated that Mongchua served the state with dedication as a deputy minister. “He was a very humble and a dedicated leader who worked tirelessly for the welfare and development of his constituency and for the people of Nagaland. His invaluable contributions to the society will always be remembered and cherished. With his demise, the state has lost a veteran leader and the void created will be difficult to fill,” Longkumer said.
The Ex-Parliamentarians Association of Nagaland also extended condolences, stating that Mongchua was the first elected representative from the Thonoknyu assembly constituency in 1974 and was known for his dedicated service to the people till he breathed his last.
“The Ex-PAN has lost yet another senior member and deeply mourns his demise” the association stated.
In another message, Advisor H Tovihoto shared that Mongchua was “A dedicated public servant and an early leader of Nagaland,” whose work was marked by simplicity and deep responsibility.
