- MOKOKCHUNG — Nagaland
Chief Minister, Dr. Neiphiu Rio, addressing concerns raised by the Combined
Technical Association of Nagaland (CTAN) and the Nagaland NET Qualified Forum
(NNQF), assured that the government is prepared to requisition 147 contractual
assistant professor and librarian posts for open recruitment through the
Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC). He emphasised that the process must
follow government procedures and urged stakeholders to remain patient until all
formalities are completed.
- Speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration of the new
deputy commissioner’s bungalow in Mokokchung on May 2, Rio firmly said, “Open
recruitment will definitely be requisitioned to NPSC, but it must adhere to
government procedures whether stakeholders like it or not.”

- He maintained that the government operates within a
structured system and will not go with the flow of organisational demands
including those from CTAN and NNQF.
“Keeping the government under arrest… is not the way to run
the government,” he added, calling for cooperation rather than confrontation.
- “We will do justice to all concerned, they should not be too
selfish or arrogant and reject whatever government decides,” he said.
- Dr. Rio revealed that the issue of absorbing the 147
contractual assistant professors and librarians has been discussed in the state
cabinet three times with a decision to ‘review any arising issues.’
- “The department couldn’t provide clarity when the issue
came-up, so the cabinet proposed forming a High Power Committee (HPC) with a
deadline,” he explained, noting the need for a working paper to make a
decision.
- Initially set for eight weeks, the HPC’s timeline was
shortened to four weeks but agitating parties rejected this adjustment. The
cabinet then requested an interim report from the HPC, based on which it
decided to revoke the order for absorption and regularisation of the posts.
- The chief minister clarified that no final decision will be
made until the HPC submits its comprehensive report.
- “Actions will be initiated based on the committee’s findings
and recommendations,” Dr. Rio assured.
