Biren stated that the state government had conveyed the demands of the Manipur University community to the centre for taking up proper action in order to restore normal academic atmosphere. Terming the demand of the MUTA and MUSU as genuine, he stated that the state government is pressuring the centre to resolve the problem and restore normalcy at the earliest. Biren stated this at the 19th Kargil Vijay Diwas function held in Imphal on July 26. Stating that the ideology of the present government is to build unity among various communities and to fight collectively against any evil, he said all communities living in the state should show oneness to protect the territorial integrity of the state as they have done in the past. Recalling that a delegation team led by him had urged the centre not to disintegrate Manipur, which is home to various communities since time immemorial, Biren has cautioned against certain people who are trying to hurt the sentiments of other communities living in the state. It may be mentioned here that all the political parties, in its meeting in the recent past, had unanimously resolved to convene a special assembly session to protect the unity and integrity of the state. Biren has asked the people to refrain from taking political advantage over the issue and highlighted that there are scores of people who are still struggling to live a life in the state. “Let us try to uplift the lives of the people at grassroots,” he added and appealed to give a chance to the present government to bring an inclusive development in the state. Deputy chief minister Y Joykumar Singh; consumer affairs, food & public distribution minister Karam Shyam; tribal affairs and hills minister N Kayasü; education minister Th. Radheshyam; MLAs; chief secretary Dr. Suresh Babu; DGP Manipur LM Khaute; and other top civil and police officials attended the function.
