Dimapur, March 4 (EMN): Groups of youths in Dimapur and Peren district are engaging in ways to address hygiene and environmental concerns. One of the ways they do so is “cleanliness drives.”
Members of a group calling itself the “Biodiversity Green Economy Foundation” of Sovima village in Dimapur cleaned on March 3 portions of the Nagaland Zoological Park at Rangapahar. The activity was to commemorate World Wildlife Day, a note from the group stated on Monday.
The members cleaned areas of the park and installed “traditional dustbin” at select junctions.
The objective behind the cleanliness drive was based on the idea that clean environments make life better; it is also the basic foundation of healthy living, the group stated.
‘Like humans, animals also require clean surrounding to adapt its home and breathe in for higher survival. The society appeals to visitors to kindly maintain healthy holistic approach towards clean environment around the area and not to throw leftovers haphazardly but in the dustbin,’ the updates stated.
The youths have requested people ‘who are domesticating any wild animals at home in Nagaland’ to “kindly donate to the Rangapahar zoo so that they can be taken care well by the expertise for better living environment.”
Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan
Members of the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan in Peren district, a programme of the ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, undertook a ‘cleanliness campaign’ at Baptist High School in Jalukie on March 4.
A note from the group on Monday stated that the cleaning drive was conducted as part of a nationwide cleanliness campaign launched by the ministry, across the country.
‘The administrates and teachers of Baptist High School, Jalukie, initiated the drive while students and teachers from different class cleared the school premises for the upcoming annual sports events to be held during 5-8 March 2019,’ the updates stated.
More than 80 students and teachers participated in the cleanliness drive in the school’s campus, the group stated. The NYKS of Peren donated baskets, dustbins; drinking water filters and sports materials to the school, the updates stated.
