Dimapur, Oct. 2 (EMN): Various organisations including schools and colleges as well as other establishments undertook cleanliness drives on the occasion of 149th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, father of the nation, on October 2.
Dimapur DCC: Commemorating the 149th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2, Dimapur District Congress Committee (DCC) organised a mass social work drive at Super Market area.
DCC president, Bendang Jamir, and the media cell secretary, Kutoho Chishi, stated that more than 300 Congress workers took part in this social work. The leaders have conveyed sincere thanks to all the participants as well as the well wishers for their moral and financial support.
HYS: Hindu Yuva Sanga (HYS) organised Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in collaboration with Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) on October 2.
The youth led by its convenor Pritam Dasgupta cleaned the polluted and nasty areas of GS Road, Dimapur.
Monoj Bhattacharjee, HYS advisor, inspired and motivated the members to organise such activities on regular basis, saying Swachh Bharat Abhiyan should not be for a day but a movement to be carried on regularly.
A vote of thanks was delivered by Kaushik Dasgupta, HYS president.
NCSU: Officials of Nagaland Contractors & Suppliers' Union (NCSU) along with the staff of National Informatics Centre (NIC), and Kohima district legal metrology & consumer protection successfully completed the cleanliness drive on October 2.
The organisations were assigned by the state government to clean secretariat road from September 29 to October 2 to mark the observance of Swacchata Hi Seva. Meanwhile, NSCN general secretary, John Kath, has appreciated the three bodies and to all the members for their active participation at the national event.
Immanuel College: As part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva (Clean India: Green India) campaign, Immanuel College conducted a cleanliness drive with the participation of the student council, faculty members, students and non teaching staff within the college premises.
The social work was marked with filling up of potholes, making and installing bamboo dustbins, whitewashing the walls, clearing the wastes etc under the supervision of the faculty members and student council.
Meanwhile, the media cell convenor, Akutu Poireng, has thanked the DMC and other well wishers for providing assistance in terms of financial, material and machineries.
SBI: State Bank of India offices in Dimapur participated in social work under the banner "Swachhta Hi Seva 2018 on October 2 at Super Market area. Around 100 officers and staff have participated along with DC Dimapur, Sushil Kumar Patel.
: Mass social work along the National Highway 29 (New Dhansiri Bridge to Chathe Bridge at Chumukedima) was conducted with the participation of 17 villages. 11 trucks and tractors along with 2 JCB were pressed into service. Donations to the social work included two dumpers and two JCB by Chabou & Co, two pick-up trucks by East Dimapur Business Association, one truck by DDADU Chumoukedima unit, one truck by Kekhrieselhou Yhome, chairman of ward 1 in Chumoukedima town, three trucks by CTC, one tractor by Tenyiphe 1, one truck by Diphupar and all government offices under EAC Chumoukedima circle.
: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) minority morcha commemorated the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi by conducting cleanliness drive at High school junction and BOC area in Kohima on October 2. More than 70 party workers including Nagaland state BJP president Temjen Imna Along and well wisher participated in the event.
: MGM College celebrated Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 in the college’s seminar hall during which principal, Dr. Shibu Varghese shared about the life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi to the students.
The updates informed that in order to highlight Gandhi's philosophy of 'peace,' faculty members and students marched for a peace rally from college to Dhobinala junction.
It mentioned that a cleanliness drive was carried out by students as part of the culmination of Swachhata Hi Seva campaign which was inaugurated on September 16 in the college campus.
In commemoration of Gandhi Jayanti, Sainik School Punglwa carried out mass cleanliness drive in the school premises and nearby areas on October 2.
According to a press release, the cleanliness drive was carried out to mobilise people for sanitation and also to contribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of clean India.
The updates informed that the principal of the school, Sharad R Keskar, initiated the drive along with the cadets, staff, and families. It added that cleaning drive was carried out assiduously, during which the whole of the school’s campus and nearby areas were cleared.
The principal of the school emphasised about keeping the environment clean for a healthy living.
: Shamator College in Tuensang observed the 149th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2 on the theme “Life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi.” According to a press release, the Extra Assistant Commissioner of Shamator, Limakumla Pongener, attended the programme as the guest speaker.
The press note informed that quiz and painting competition were held based on the theme.
