DIMAPUR — As Dimapur’s sanitation woes refuse to ease, the Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has stepped in with a city-wide cleanliness call, urging shopkeepers to take responsibility for keeping the streets and markets clean from April 15.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the council stated that it has been receiving a growing number of complaints from citizens over the lack of proper sanitation, and called for stronger accountability from the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) and the district administration.
It expressed disappointment that despite expectations of improved civic management under municipal governance, the overall condition of cleanliness in Dimapur has seen little change.
“Unpleasant conditions continue to persist, with no visible improvement in sanitary maintenance,” it stated.

With no significant progress on this front, the council has launched a “Dimapur City Cleanliness Campaign”, calling on all shopkeepers—especially those along commercial and main roads—to ensure waste-free, mud-free and dust-free surroundings in front of their establishments on a daily basis.
The campaign will come into effect from April 15.
The NCD also urged shopkeepers to ensure that drains and footpaths adjoining their premises are kept clean and free from clogging.
Stating that it will actively monitor compliance, the council warned that remarks would be issued against defaulters who fail to adhere to the initiative.
Describing the move as a step towards “self-cleanliness management”, the NCD appealed to all stakeholders to cooperate in improving the city’s hygiene and overall civic environment.
