Classical Swine Fever in Pig and its Preventive Measures

Swine fever is a highly contagious disease affecting pigs of all ages .It is a very common viral disease of pig. Pig get infected either by direct contact with infected pigs or by contaminated feed, garbage and water. The symptoms of swine fever include high temperatures, off-feed lethargy, eyelids are closed with discharges, conjunctivitis, coughing, sneezing and constipation followed bydiarrhoea, weightloss, red patches are seen on the ear, tail abdomen and inner part of the thigh. Nervous signs like incoordination of body while walking, muscle tremor, paralysis and convulsion may be seen sometime pregnant sow may abort Steps for prevention of swine fever disease
  1. Vaccination of the piglet above 3 month followed by yearly vaccination with swine fever vaccine
  2. Always purchase your piglet, growerstock from a disease free stock and well known reliable source
  3. The house should be kept clean dry and airy
  4. Feed well balance diet
  5. Pig house, feeder and water trough be wash clean and disinfected with phenyl daily
  6. Provide sufficient clean portable waterdaily
  7. Remove left over feeds and water in the evening
  8. Isolation of the sick pig from the healthy ones
  9. Periodic deworming
  10. Proper disposal of death pig by burial
