Kohima, Nov. 6 (EMN): Shurhosul Zhotso goal in the first half was enough to secure a 1-0 victory for Chedema Village Youth Organisation over The Quakers as they entered into the quarter-final round of the ongoing 24th Classic Cup at the Kohima local ground on Tue. Nov. 6.
With only five teams in Group-D, Chedema’s win put the team directly to the quarters and will face either United V&N, Dimapur or Kings on Nov. 15.
In a closely encountered match, Chedema took hold of the game when Zhotso found the net in the 6th minute. Quaker’s goalkeeper Rajusetuo made some heroic saves in the match saving Imlongchaba, Salu, Punürü shots but it was not enough for the team.
Chedema should have won by a bigger margin but the opponent goalkeeper was in his form to save some crucial goals for the team.
Gideon Leo, the striker playing for The Quakers FC was kept quiet throughout the match as the midfielders failed to make a breakthrough for him. Seyienievituo, the goalkeeper of Chedema was also kept quiet throughout the match as he kept a clean sheet in his first match for Chedema.
In the second match, United V&S, Dimapur defeated Ethereal FC 2-0 in the encounter. A goal each from Purakam and Olando Yimchunger in either half secured the victory for United team to send them through to the last 16 round.
In the match, Purakam opened the account in the 3rd minute for United, while Olando Yimchunger scored in the injury time in the second half to finish the game for United team.
United striker’s Purakam was also culpable of missing numerous chances to give his team the deserving lead but failed to finish the game. His weak shots were easily saved by the opponent goalkeeper.
Ethereal FC failed to live up the game in their debut match as they miserably failed to threaten with their blunt attack throughout the match.
In their pre-quarterfinal round, United V&S, Dimapur takes on King’s FC on Nov. 10.
