Kohima Bible College thrash Brotherhood FC in the first match

Kohima, Nov. 2 (EMN): Kohima Bible College blanked Brotherhood FC 4-0 in the inaugural match as the 24th Classic Cup got underway at the Kohima local ground on Fri. Nov. 2.
In the match, KBC team started better off the two sides and KBC’s defenders Tekwilo Mekrisuh tapped in the lead in the 8th minute following a poor clearance from the opponent defenders.
Minutes later the captain of KBC Talizhu with his solo effort beat the defender and slot home passed the keeper in the 24th minute to double the lead.
There was no stopping from KBC side with the sloppy defending from Brotherhood side as Peteneilhuo Paunuo scored in the 29th minute to make it 3-0.
The toothless Brotherhood side failed to make much impact in the game as KBC continued their dominance with the ball possession.
In the second half, Brotherhood FC with their blunt attack failed to threaten as Kevilezo Sachu seized the opportunity to turn home from a rebound in the 41 minute to make it 4-0.
With no comeback in the game, KBC held on for a win at the end of the match keeping their clean sheet in the first match.
KBC should have won by a bigger margin but lacked finishing from their forward.
A total of 23 teams are taking part in the tournament. The champions will receive a cash prize of INR 150,000 along with the trophy and citation, while the runners-up will receive INR 80,000. The individual awards includes player of the people’s choice, best goalkeeper, best defence, best midfield, best forward, highest scorer, and player of the tournament.
Football needs to be promoted at grassroots level - Sazo
Football needs to be promoted at the grassroots drawing the players from every sport clubs said MLA Chotisuh Sazo during the inaugural ceremony of the Classic Cup while congratulating the Classic club members for taking effort to organise the yearly tournament.
He reminded the players that football is not for winning alone but winning and losing are part of the game. A good player is who can accept both defeat and victory with smile and grace, Sazo said.
He requested the young players to play good football and exhibit their skills so that they can be the future of the sport in the state.
Sazo said the club has seen in the past, many good players have been produced through the annual tournament but impressed upon to produce more players in the national and international level.
Stating the sports can bring fame and also earn livelihood, he cited that the state government has also kept a certain percentage of job reserved for the sportspersons.
