Kohima, Nov. 13 (EMN): FC Pochury and New Market XI entered the quarter-final round on the eighth day of the ongoing 25th edition of Classic Cup at Khuochiezie local ground in Kohima, on Wednesday.
The silver jubilee edition of the football extravaganza organised by Classic Club Kohima on the theme "Together We Can" will conclude on November 23.
FC Pochury stormed into the quarter-finals by thrashing Invictus FC 7-0 in the first match of the day.
In a one-sided affair, Dominican Nyouri opened the floodgates for FC Pochury in the 5th minute before Chisie Nyosou added two more goals in the 15th and 25th minutes in the first half. Nyosou scored one more goal just three minutes into the second half to complete his hat-trick.
FC Pochury continued to route Invictus FC as Atsiatho Nyuthe increased the margin in the 35th minute before Chisie Nyosou added his fourth goal of the match in the 41st minute. Yithachu Thupitor scored the seventh goal for FC Pochury in the 46th minute, sealing the victory over Invictus FC with a comprehensive margin.
Champions of the first edition New Market XI blanked Kohima Bible College 2-0 in the second match of the day to progress to the quarter-finals.
Kezhose Mathew's brace in the 9th minute helped New Market XI take the lead over Kohima Bible College before adding one more in the 25th minute.
Riding on Mathew's brace, New Market XI held on to their 2-0 lead over Kohima Bible College till the final whistle.
