New Market XI thrash FC Chizami United 4-0 to enter semis
Kohima, Nov.15 (EMN): Substitute Gideon Leo struck twice in the second half to help New Market FC win over FC Chizami United 4-0 in the third quarterfinal and entered the semifinals of the ongoing 23rd Classic Club here at the Kohima local ground on Wednesday.
In the close encountered match, New Market controlled much of the possession but the stubborn defense of Chizami defended the score in the first half. Chizami United’s side were on the counter-attack but lacked the finishing as New Market continued their dominance but failed in their attempts to break the deadlock.
After a goalless first half, New Market coach replaced Vekhruto Resu with Gideon in the second half and skipper Khwetelhi Thopi scored the first goal with his solo effort and gave New Market the much deserved lead in the 62nd minute.
The lead helped New Market to regain momentum as substitute Gideon Leo made an immediate impact as he scored the second goal with a clinical finish in the 65 minute after a poor clearance from the rival defender.
One minute later, Medoneituo Sekhose latches a cross into Gideon path and he neatly lifted the ball over the onrushing keeper to score the third goal for New Market.
Yhunshalo Kemp also found the net in the additional time to make it 4-0 at the end of the final whistle.
With the win, New Market will face the winner of fourth semifinal match played between St Joseph’s College and Foster’s FC on Nov. 18 in the second semifinals of the tournament.
