Tamthing’s brace helps St Joseph’s College crush EIMI United 4-1; FC Chizami United to face New Market XI in quarters
Kohima, Nov. 11 (EMN): St Joseph College's player, Tamthing scored twice in the second half to help beat EIMI United 4-1 and enter the last eight of the ongoing 23rd Classic Club held at the Kohima local ground on Saturday.
Menose’s opener was canceled out by Janghao strike in the first half but a spot-kick conversion by Pelevikho and Tamthing’s brace in the second half secured a convincing victory for St Joseph's team over EIMI United.
While FC Chizami United and Foster FC also won their respective matches to enter quarterfinals on Saturday.
Playing the last round of last 16, Menose opened the scoring in the 14th minute for St Joseph‘s College but minutes later Janghao scored the equaliser for United to end the first half with 1-1.
In the second half, St Joseph side started their counter attacks with better ball possession and resulted in a goal after the referee awarded a penalty for a handball inside the area and Pelevikho rose on the occasion to coolly converted a spot kick in the 45th minute.
There was no stopping from talisman Tamthing as he scored two successive goals in the 57th minute and 60th minute to put the team in the driver seat. There was no comeback from EIMI side as St Joseph hold on for a win. Tamthing also became the leading scorer of the tournament with seven goals so far in the tournament.
In the first match, FC Chizami United overcame Kezekevi 4-3 via tie-breaker after the match ended in a goalless draw. With the win, Chizami United will face New Market XI in the quarterfinals on Nov. 15.
Fosters FC beat Sporting FC 5-4 via tie-breaker after the match ended 1-1 during the match. With the win, Fosters FC set up a date with St Joseph College in the quarters on Nov. 16.
In the match, the first half both sides were wasteful and failed to break the deadlock.
However, in the second half Fosters FC came back stronger and managed to find the back of the net through Kensington in the 47th minute but minutes later Singh scored the equaliser to end the match 1-1.
