Khampei's hat-trick leads Naga Terriers over United Brothers; Tyrants FC, Ethereal FC in pre-quarters
Kohima, Nov. 4 (EMN): Khampei Konyak scored a hat-trick as Naga Terries Naga Terriers blanked United Brothers FC 7-0 to enter the second round of the ongoing 23rd Classic Club held at the Kohima local ground on Saturday.
While Tyrants FC and Ethereal FC won their respective matches in the first round to set up a clash for the pre-quarter final match on Nov. 9.
Playing against the youngest team in the tournament, Naga Terriers thrashed United Brothers 7-0 to mark their entry into the tournament with a seven-goal thriller.
In the match, Medo Angami opened the scoring in the 7th minute for Naga Terriers to give the deserving lead.
Khampei added the second goal in the 14th-minute and went on to score again in the 26th minute to make it 3-0 in the first half for Naga Terriers.
In the second half, Medo Angami doubled his tally in the 33rd minute, while Captain Haotingmang Thomsong scored a long-range kick in the 41st minute after the keeper failed to clear the ball and deflect back into its own net.
Ayiezo Meye also found the net in the 50th minute and Khampei completed his hat-trick in the 56th minute to finish the game.
The young team failed to deal with the pace of Naga Terriers as they conceded seven goals in the process.
Khampei Konyak became the second hat-trick scorer of the tournament after Tamthing who earlier scored a hat-trick for St Joseph College on Friday.
With the win, Naga Terriers will clash with Kimhoma Youth FC in the second round on November 6.
Viho’s goal in the second half helped Tyrants FC beat M.T.Youth Club and enter the pre-quarters of the tournament.
The winning and lone goal was scored by Viho Kin in the 50th minute for Tyrants FC.
While in the second match, Ethereal FC narrowly defeated Highway FC 3-1 via tie-breaker after the match ended in a goalless draw.
The lackluster game ended in a goalless draw after both teams failed to find the back of the net, luck did favoured Ethereal’s side as they managed to overcome Highway FC in the penalty shootout.
