DIMAPUR. AUGUST 24
IN response to the news item published in this daily under the caption “Swimming Pool at Dimapur Club that was never to be” on August 5, Executive Engineer, PWD (H), Youth Resources &Sports Division, Kohima today has clarified that 90 percent of the work for construction of the swimming pool at Dimapur Club has been completed.
He said as the work was to be executed at the premises of Dimapur Club, payment was made to kickstart the project for a half Olympic size pool (12.5m x 25m). Accordingly, work started at the original site but it had to be abandoned due to unstable soil conditions, he said. At the new site, a building had to be dismantled before the work could begin, and therefore the party incurred extra cost for earth work and dismantling of the building and the project was delayed. Progress of the work was also very slow during the monsoon season, the EE said in his clarification. However, since then the work is in good progress and at present the physical progress of work achieved is about 90%, he stated.
The EE stated that the department had submitted a progress report along with photographs to the office of the Accountant General, Nagaland in December, 2013 but this was not reflected in the CAG Report.
More than one year has lapsed since the time of the audit and the release of the CAG report, the EE said adding that during this time most of the civil works had been executed.
