Kohima, April 7 (EMN): The annual sports week of Christ King Higher Secondary School (CKHSS) Kohima village got underway on Friday with Khriehu Liezietsu, Parliamentary Secretary, State Lotteries, Music Task Force, Government of Nagaland, as the chief guest. In his address, he said that sports is an integral part of human development and talent exhibition through which one develops one’s personality, character to move forward in life. In the present competitive world, sports and games offer great opportunities and avenues to young people to excel in their respective fields of interests and aptitudes. Employment opportunities are in plenty in the fields of games and sports too. Through games and sports the young people are prevented from bad habits like tobacco, alcoholism and drugs.
The inaugural function began with invocation prayer from the Vice-Principal, Rev. Sr. Stella. Rev. Fr. Peter Salew, the parish priest of Christ King Parish welcomed the chief guest, dignitaries, invitees, parents and students with the words of Boxer Champion, Mohammed Ali, “Champions aren’t made in the gym. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them - a dream, a desire, a vision.” He urged the students to have a dream, a desire, a vision to become better citizens to create a better world and a better humanity. Enthusiastic students gave their best performance in their march past and drill display which enthralled the spectators. This was followed by the vote of thanks proposed by Fr. Linus Lonuo, the principal of the school. During the function the chief guest also gave away the prizes to the winners of the cross country race.
The sports meet will conclude on April 12.
