Dimapur, Nov. 20 (EMN): The ‘Dimapur Fest’ will be held on December 16 and the 17th at the Dimapur District Sport Council stadium in Dimapur. The event is being organised by the Better Dimapur team in collaboration with the Naga Council of Dimapur, Dimapur Municipal Council, Naga Women Hoho of Dimapur, Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation, Dimapur Naga Students’ Union, and the GB Union of Dimapur.
This was informed by the event’s organisers during a press conference that was conducted at the Dimapur Muncipal Council’s (DMC) office on Nov. 20 in the city.
Addressing media persons, the DMC’s administrator Albert Ezung said the Dimapur Fest the previous year was held for three days but this year they have decided to conduct it for two days.
Ezung said that the basic idea is to involve all the colonies within the DMC’s jurisdiction and give them a platform where they can participate in various competitions. He said also that the event would showcase local talents besides hosting painting events and other competitions.
The organisers informed that the December festival resonates with the most joyous time of the year which will also provide an opportunity to youths and the elderly alike to interact with the people from different walks of life in the city.
Slated to be one of the bigger events for the city before Christmas, the two-day event will be marked by competitions.
There is also a message concerning the environment: To discourage single-use plastic in Dimapur, the organisers informed that they strongly recommend environment-friendly paper bags during the festivals.
The two-day event will feature competitions for the colonies for both men and women. The events include tug of war and a ‘Santa Claus’ competition, bamboo stilt race, and pole-climbing for men only; a penalty shootout for women only. The events are open to all the citizens of the city under the DMC’s jurisdiction
In open category competitions, there will be art competition, and photography besides a penalty shootout.
Stalls will be set up at the venue through invitation only which will be free. The stalls will be offering a myriad of “never before seen” ethnic costumes, and jewellery etc for sale. There will be mouth-watering food too from indigenous Naga dishes to continental fares to enhance the experience of visitors.
