KOHIMA — The ongoing City Centre project in Kohima, located at the Old Assembly Secretariat, is expected to be completed by December 2023 or January 2024, according to Chief Executive Officer of Kohima Smart City Development Ltd., K Theunuo.
‘The construction of the four-storey building is incorporating new technology, including prefabrication steel structure, deck sheets, reinforcement, and no shuttering, among other innovative methods. The materials used in the construction differ from conventional ones,’ he said.
Monsoon is said to have slowed down the progress of the project but it is expected to pick up the pace once the rainy season is over. The construction work of the ground floor is ongoing.
The CEO, however, said that they are striving to expedite the process as all the smart city projects are supposed to be completed by March 2024.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]It may be mentioned that the Centre had extended the smart city mission deadline for one more year, from June 2023 to June 2024, for completion of the projects.

The City Centre project is being developed as part of the redevelopment of the Old Assembly Secretariat site under the Smart City Mission. It covers an area of approximately 5.29 acres and will house various amenities, such as a 3-5 star hotel, shopping centre with multiplex, multi-level car parking, a mini sports complex, digital library, rooftop cafe, amphitheatre, and a food court.
Regarding the multi-level car parking projects at Old Medical Secretariat, PR Hill, and Old NST main town in Kohima, Kohima Smart City is said to have completed its part. The state government, which is supposed to set up food courts in both the buildings, is yet to commence construction work.
