- DIMAPUR — The Department of Horticulture, in
collaboration with M/s Green Cascade, Mokokchung, organised a citrus sapling
distribution programme at the Horticulture Farm, Yisemyong, under Mokokchung
district on May 30.
- Ayieno Hibo, Director of Horticulture and the chief guest
for the event, in her address, highlighted the department’s commitment to
strengthening its relationship with the farming community, a DIPR report
stated.
- The director affirmed that the initiative not only promotes
commercial citrus cultivation but also reinforces the department’s dedication
to serving farmers.
- Hibo emphasised that the department’s doors are always open
for farmers, encouraging them to approach the department for support.
- She further expressed hope for the farmers' progress, noting
that the department's success is intrinsically linked to theirs.

Temjenmenla, appreciated the contribution of M/s Green Cascade in providing
free citrus saplings to farmers from Longleng and Mokokchung districts.
- She commended the generous gesture, expressing hope that the
saplings distributed will bear fruits in the coming years, positively impacting
the farmers’ livelihoods and the region’s horticultural growth.
- A representative from M/s Green Cascade shared insights into
the benefits of citrus cultivation. He emphasised that the main idea behind the
saplings distribution initiative is to encourage farmers to enhance their
livelihoods.
- He urged the farming community not to limit their
interactions with the department to seeking subsidies but also to seek
technical knowledge and guidance, which are essential for sustainable farming
progress.
- A key highlight of the programme was the distribution of
thousands of high-quality Khasi mandarin citrus saplings to 120 participating
farmers from Longleng and Mokokchung.
- The initiative, aimed at promoting commercial citrus
cultivation, is expected to significantly benefit horticultural development and
rural livelihoods across the region.
- “The event also served as a vital platform for farmer
engagement and knowledge sharing in horticultural practices, underscoring the
collaborative efforts of the department, private stakeholders, and the farming
community,” the report added.
