DIMAPUR, APRIL 28
It is a fight that everyone must have to fight dirty–the good dirty fight though. With garbage heaps increasing in and around Dimapur–increasingly perceived to be one of the dirtiest urban areas in Nagaland–citizens of a local municipal community on April 28 have had to pool resources and manpower to construct a garbage disposal space.
On Thursday, residents of Hill View Colony, a municipal community with about 250 households, took the initiative of contributing to Dimapur’ struggle to be a cleaner town to live in.
With contribution from the residents of the colony, the colony’s council constructed a garbage disposal site in the locality for the convenience of local residents.
The dumping structure is near the DC office junction.
During a short interaction in the day, members of the council said that the colony members decided to construct the dumping site along with various other sanitation initiatives.
The members of the area are said to have filled potholes and cleaned drains within the colony too. A resident said that the need to construct a disposal for garbage became a ‘necessity’ as garbage and waster were being thrown along roads and public areas. The trend was becoming a nuisance, besides polluting both land and air.
The sole aim of constructing the site was to keep the colony clean, they explained.
A citizen also opined that any property, be it private, be it public, should be taken care of equally and that every person should contribute equally toward transforming the society for good.
Hill View Colony borders Lengrijan, and from the DC Court Junction till the deputy commissioner’s office.
