The revamping works began after donations were collected from well-wishers, an initiative of the Ward Education Committee (WEC) after consultations with Kichutip ward’s authority.
The government primary school of Kichutip was established 1968 and will be celebrating its golden jubilee in 2018. The school has 46 students (classes A-IV) with 14 teaching and faculty members. However, the school remained unable to upgrade to middle school since its inception.
“In 2016 DPDP meeting, it was approved to construct a room for class V but till today Department initiated is not visible. Since 2004, the School is not getting any SSC grant; teacher’s grand or school maintenance aid,” said Kichutip WEC’s Chairman Tsükjemwati.
‘After deliberating the grievance face by school, the Kichutip WEC after taking consultation with ward authority collected a sum of Rs 64, 000 from well-wishers to start the revamp process,” he said. Tsükjemwati added that a benevolent citizen from the ward donated a sum of Rs 20, 000 plus 80 litres of paint.
Further, he said, volunteers wholeheartedly worked for eight days to repair and replace doors, windows; painting the school building. He expressed gratitude to the well-wisher and volunteers. However, he expressed discontentment at the department for ‘not providing honorarium to the Mid-Day-Meal (MDM) cook for the past three years even though the school is getting regular MDM supplies.’
“To produce future leaders and honourable citizens if the government shows lack of interest to facilitate the school than our society will slowly face the break point and its reaction seed will be upon us. Therefore, we the Kichutip WEC would like to urge the department to provide the necessary requirement needed for development of the schools,” said Tsükjemwati on behalf of Kichutip’s WEC.
