Kohima, March 23 (EMN): Heavy rain accompanied by hailstorms on Sunday afternoon caused a drain to spill out wastes on to the National Highway 29 (NH-29) along the Mohonkhola locality in the state’s capital town Kohima. However, before the authorities took cognizance of the situation, citizens residing in the area took the effort of cleaning the debris.
The wastes containing plastic bottles and wrappers piled up in a drain near the traffic point, which overflowed on to the highway as the rain lashed down on the city. It was learned that the wastes, which were being thrown into the drain from the middle sector of New Minister's Hill area, flow towards the highway.
Meanwhile, some residents in Kohima have complained of untimely discharge of eptic tanks by “irresponsible” people, causing much inconvenience.
