Dimapur, Aug. 22 (EMN): Reacting to a viral video of a crying child with a huge eye tumour carried by its distraught mother' being circulated in the social media WhatsApp and the background voice of a female implicating the CIHSR ophthalmology (eye) department as the cause for the misery of the child, the Christian Institute of Health Science and Research (CIHSR) has termed the implication by the unknown female as 'false' and said and a complaint has been lodged with the police.
The CIHSR, in a press statement, clarified that the child, with a cancerous tumour in the right eye, was brought by the nuns from the Missionaries of Charity, Assam on the Aug. 6 and 7 of 2018 to the Ophthalmology department of CIHSR for the first time.
It said that the tumour was not treated for a very long time and the hospital was doing several investigations and discussion of further treatment was going on when this video was created and circulated by the third party.
Saying that the hospital does not know the intention behind the claim of the female who was commenting that the child was brought to CIHSR and after instilling eye drops, the child developed this grossly abnormal situation, the release said that the words of the unknown female as 'baseless and uninformed'.
It stated that it has lodged a complaint with the police and expressed hope that the culprit and the source of the video will be found out soon. The institute hoped that the police will to be strict in tracking these videos and imposed penalties to deter “frivolous people” from creating chaos in society.
The CIHSR further appealed the public not to be misled by the fake video and cautioned that such similar videos are likely to continue in the future through social media to malign individuals or organisations. Therefore, the CIHSR said that the public have to be vigilant and be responsible and restraint themselves from forwarding such videos.
