Dimapur, September 12: A one-day seminar on ‘Corruption’ and ‘National Food Security’ was jointly organised by the men’s department of Tsiemephuma Baptist Church and Peraciezie Baptist Church on September 10 at Peraciezie Baptist Church, Kohima, with a renown social activist, Kezhokhoto Savi, president NVCO and convenor ACAUT Nagaland (legal cell), as resource person.
Speaking on the occasion, Kezhokhoto Savi pointed out several conducts of corrupt practices in Nagaland such as abuse of power by government employees and involvement of church workers during elections.
Emphasising on the need to rid corruption in the society, Savi has advocated introduction of ‘Lokayukta.’ In the second session, Kezhokhoto Savi presented the National Food Security Act 2013 in detailed and also highlighted some of the lapses already indulged in the distribution to the beneficiaries. He said charging Rs 5 - 6 per kg of rice was wrong as per the Act. He said beneficiaries of both AAY and PHH (Priority Household) are entitled to get 35 kgs of rice and 5 kgs wheat per individual per month respectively at the rate of Rs 3 per kg and Rs 2 per kg respectively. Stating that awareness on the National Food Security Act 2013 was very low especially in villages, he said lack of awareness would victimise genuine beneficiaries.
Savi further conveyed his sincere willingness to spread awareness campaign on national food security at village levels and has requested the citizens to dial or call up the Nagaland State Consumer Helpline Toll Free No. 1800-345-3701 or email – nagaconsuhelpline@yahoo.com for further query or information during the office hour or visit the office situated at Old Assembly Secretariat building (First Floor), Kohima, Nagaland.
