Dimapur, May 30 (EMN): Consultant of Legislators’ Forum AIDS, Dr. Vinito L Chishi, has called upon the church leaders to address the issue of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) in their local church.
Speaking at a day-long seminar programme of HIV and AIDS held on May 25 at Ongpangkong Salang in Mokokchung, Dr. Vinito has suggested developing strategies in ministering to people living with HIV and AIDS.
The programme was organised by the Care and Support Society of Mokokchung in collaboration with the Pastor’s Fellowship Mokokchung Town supported by the Legislators’ Forum AIDS of Nagaland.
Chishi, who was also one of the resource persons during the programme, mentioned that church must be ready to help those who were infected by the disease. He remarked that ‘the church is a permanent community fixture where they can unleash a force of volunteers from their congregation and help the affected with nutrition and medications.’ He added that the church, as the most trusted organisation in the community’ could provide care, comfort, and counselling to the affected person.
The programme was stated to have had three sessions. Some of the topics discussed included “HIV scenario and response of the church,” and “Risk and vulnerability.”
