Dimapur, Aug. 19 (EMN): New Chümoukedima Youth Society (NCYS) and New Chümoukedima Village Students’ Union (NCVSU) have condemned the alleged high-handedness of the state police personnel manning the check-gate at Chümoukedima for what it termed as ‘senseless attack on three of its members.’
A joint press release issued by NCYS general secretary, Nourhengulie Chiese, and the vice president, Ketoulhoutuo Hama, alleged that three of its members namely
Rokovi Kruse, president of Chakhroma students’ union, president of New Chümoukedima youth society, Keneingukho Hama, and wrestling secretary Shezovil Kera were assaulted on the night of Aug. 17.
The organisations have questioned the intentions of the belligerent jawans for preying upon innocent citizens without any provocation. It has termed the brutal assault meted upon the president and his two colleagues as a ‘neat, pre-planned act’ as the victims were attacked repeatedly without any interrogation or enquiry under the pretext of false information.
The organisations were appalled by the sinister designs held against the Chümoukedima people by the IC and his jawans.
Although the matter had been amicably settled due to the sagacity and good faith of the New Chümoukedima Village Council and the timely intervention of the assistant commissioner of police, the youth organisation and students’ union cautioned that the goodwill and mutual relationship bestowed on the police department manning the check gate should not be taken for granted. It added that should any irresponsible law enforcing officer harbour evil designs to target the innocent citizens would be reciprocated befittingly.
Also, the Chakhroma Students’ Union condemned the alleged assault meted out on its president, Rokovi Kruse and two friends, on Aug. 17 at the Chumukedima Police check gate by the police personnel.
A statement issued by the union general secretary, Kevisese Krose and information & publicity secy. Mhalevilie Medoze, while expressing resentment at what it term as ‘brutal, senseless assault’ on its president, by a “cohort of police personnel” and two officers.
It stated that the incident had occurred following a minor altercation between a constable on duty and the three.
The constable is said to have reported to the one of the officers, labeling the three as extortionists, levying tax of INR 100 from a commercial-bound vehicle, which the union said is baseless. On the pretext of false report by the constable, it stated that the officer, “showing no sensibility in his approach, directly confronted one of the boys, inflicting physical blows.”
Sating that such kind of incident ‘is not new at the Police Check gate,’ the union pointed out that had been multiple times where neighboring villagers and general public were manhandled by the police personnel.
