Dimapur, Jan. 7: The Chumoukedima Village Council has warned municipal poll candidates of banishment from the area and that the council will not consider them ‘public leaders or town council members’ if they violate the “public resolution” prohibiting candidates from filing nominations to the polls.
The council issued a press release on Saturday quoting the council and “16 tribal unit leaders of Chumoukedima” against the municipal polls.
“Basing on the combined meeting resolution of Chumoukedima Village Council and the 16 tribal leaders in Chumoukedima on 2nd Jan 2017, hereby issued once again for public interest, that no individual or party is allowed to file nomination,” the council stated in the press release.
The organization stated that the resolution that was taken in the combined meeting was “not just issued in letter, but it shall be implemented / imposed in spirit too.”
Anyone who violates the resolution “shall be forced to leave Chumoukedima area, if they don't withdraw their nomination paper,” the council warned. No one shall be allowed to function from ‘CTC office’ as council members, until the issue of the municipal or town council Act is settled with the Nagaland government ‘by all the frontal Naga tribal leaders.’
The council also enquired whether the Nagaland Municipal Election Rule empowers an EAC or returning election officer to shift ‘nomination paper submission’ to Dimapur for Chumoukedima. The council stated: ‘It also questions if there is such discretion or option, why the EAC Chumoukedima had issued the notification only for the last day i.e. 7th Jan 2017. Those candidates who have filed nomination have wilfully violated the public resolution,’ the council stated.
The “Chumoukedima public”, the council stated, “shall not regard them as public leaders or town council members.”
However, for intending candidates “who stood with the public resolution steadfastly” the public of Chumoukedima “fully stands behind them in all their endeavors even in days to come.”
The CVC also expressed heartiest gratitude to all “who supported the issue physically or financially, from day one till date and further requested all to come fort voluntarily if the need arises even in near future.”
