Dimapur, Nov. 3: In the aftermath of the landslide that occurred on Oct. 30 near Chumukedima police check post, several vehicles carrying many passengers between Kohima and Dimapur have been left stranded.
Amidst such bleak situation, the residents of the area have been at their benevolent best by helping the stranded passengers in various ways for the past few days.
According to updates from a government official Chumukedima, members of the New Chumukedima Village Youth Organisation cleared the jungle area and made a temporary passage for emergency. Bamboo poles were laid across, and ropes strung ‘along the steep cliffs’, to help the people cross the landslide area, it was informed.
The organisation is also assisting the police in managing and cordoning off the working site from day one till date, the official informed.
The New Chumukedima village council and Chumukedima Hindu Society have also been providing free meals and drinking water to drivers and the stranded people.
While acknowledging the many services provided, he also informed that Chumukedima Town Youth Organisation (CTYO) has provided vehicles for free to ferry stranded persons to Chumukedima check post where auto rickshaws and taxis are available. They are also assisting traffic police in “movement management” and have provided drinking water to the stranded people.
Drinking water was also provided by ‘Skill Alli’ firm, Tribal Union Chumukedima Town and other individuals, he said. The official also acknowledged the services rendered by a few highway hotels at New Chumukedima, namely Rokongulie Meyase Hotel, Sebi Kire and Atsa Hotel, Panger Hotel and Limala Hotel for providing free dinner to all stranded drivers and others working at the site.
He also informed that the Dimapur police’s ambulance was at disposal in case of any medical emergency.
