DIMAPUR — Chümoukedima Town Council (CTC) has informed the public to comply with and maintain the demarcation. Defaulters or encroachers on public roads, footpaths, drains, etc., will do so at their own risk of losing property, land, or investment.
In a notification, the CTC further stated that any resident, person, or agency encroaching on the notified areas will be liable to forceful eviction or demolition as provided by law.
Reminding the orders issued on August 30, 2017, and May 31, 2017, regarding the encroachment of footpaths, sidewalks, or areas reserved for public facilities under the CTC, it was stated that the demarcated and notified areas reserved for public roads, including spaces for drains, footpaths, electric posts, water pipelines, OFC cables, etc., were resolved by the Chümoukedima Village Council in 1969, 1974, and 1995, and by the Chümoukedima Town Council in notifications dated July 1, 2006, and May 10, 2011.
The areas encompass:
Area beside the National Highway, to maintain 45 feet from the middle of the road on both sides (i.e., total 90 feet).
Main Town Roads, to maintain 20 feet from the middle of the road on both sides (i.e., total 40 feet):
National Highway - Seiuruzha Colony - Chümoukedima Village
National Highway - North Town School - Towards Khuova River
Approach roads under Chümoukedima Town Council to maintain 15 feet from the middle of the road on both sides (i.e., total 30 feet):
National Highway - North Town School - Agape School - National Highway
National Highway - Sabalie Colony - Chümoukedima village
National Highway - Police School Road - Ward 5 - Ward 9
Old EAC Office - Agape School
Approach roads under Chümoukedima Town Council to maintain 10 feet from the middle of the road on both sides (i.e., total 20 feet):
National Highway - Old Post Office
National Highway - Ward 3
National Highway - Ward 4
All ward/colony single lanes, to maintain 6 feet from the middle of the road on both sides (i.e., total 12 feet).
Colony roads not mentioned above are to maintain at least 20 feet in breadth (i.e., 10 feet from the middle of the road on each side).
It was stated that the provision of space for common public infrastructure, as mentioned, was originally reserved by the Chümoukedima village authority when the area was a village and subsequently by the Chümoukedima Town Council, with the vision of ensuring a better quality of life for all its residents.
