Mokokchung, Oct. 19 (EMN): Dr. I. Sentitemsu Imsong Award for Academic Excellence was held at Sangtemla Community Hall, Mokokchung on Oct 18.
The award was given to Chubakatila Jamir, who achieved Top 18 (A) in HSLC Examination 2018 conducted under NBSE. The award carries a cash amount of INR 40,000 and citation. The award is sponsored by the Asangma Senso Bendanglen Alir Telongjem (literally translated as the union of Asangma village citizens staying outside the village).
T. Lipok Jamir, joint Director, Department of Education, who presented the award, said academic excellence can be achieved only if one strive and search with a determination to achieve it. While asking all to be humble, Jamir said that humility before God, proper management of time and hard work are the key ingredients of success.
He also asserted that wisdom and knowledge are the wheels and understanding power is the way how we drive in life and the students to be committed to whatever endeavour they embarked in their life.
The presidents of the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM), Langpangkong Students’ Conference (LKM), AST and ASBAT also spoke at the event.
Earlier, the award recipient Chubakatila Jamir, while delivering her acceptance speech, attributed her success to God, parents and her teachers.
K. Toshi Lemtor, the chairman of the Award Trust Board delivered the keynote address while S. Temjen Imsong, the chairman of Village Council Asangma delivered exhorted the audience.
It may be noted here that Late. Dr. I. Sentitemsu Jamir is considered as one of the most popular scientists from Nagaland. He stood in top 7 in the HSLC 2001 exam; top 3 in the HSSLC 2003, B.Sc. (Physics) Gold Medalist; top 1 from Science College 2006and completed his M. Sc. (Physic) from University of Hyderabad 2008.
In the same year (2008) he went to Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore for Ph.D and finished his coursework in sort of a record 4 years at the age of 27. He won the Kumari L.A Meera Memorial Medal Award (Theoretical Physic)” for the best Ph.D thesis, “ Improvement of Hadronic form factors using Analyticity and Unitarity Constraints” in 2012 and President of India Medal for State topper in Physic Bs.Sc in 2006.
He went to the University of Siegen, Germany 2013-14 and Ben Gurion University Israel (2014-15) for Post-Doctoral Studies. After coming back to India he became a Visiting Scientist at Mathematical Science, Chennia (2015) and thereafter selected as Assistant Professor in both IIT Guwahati and Hyderabad. He died at age 30 by “Severe Septic Shock” at Columbia, Asia Hospital Bangalore in 2015. He also published over 20 International papers and journals during his short life.
